Vision

vision

Our vision is to to purchase this land with the express aim of maintaining the shipyard. AstilleroVerde would continue to construct wooden boats and offer educational training programs. An accredited workplace educational facility, this working ship yard runs educational programs in traditional boat building. By employing and training apprentices from the neighbourhood, AstilleroVerde provides income and essential skills in this area of low employment in Costa Rica.

Our experienced team has worked tirelessly towards the construction of Ceiba, the first ship to be built at the AstilleroVerde, establishing credibility by proving our capability of managing projects of this scale and caliber. The AstilleroVerde shipyard has graced the pages of more than a dozen nautical printed magazines from nearly as many countries, and has the captivated attention of global nautical community. A reliable team which has delivered on goals and milestones, we look forward to building upon these hard-earned achievements for years to come.

established credibility

International diversity enhances our community and knowledge base, and offering educational opportunities is a cornerstone of AstilleroVerde’s long-term vision. Since 2018 AstilleroVerde has hosted official interns as an accredited educational workplace facility, recognized by the government of the Netherlands. To date eight students from three institutions have completed their internship at the jungle shipyard. Shipbuilding students have come from HMC boat building & wood working college of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and academic students have come from the Maine Maritime Academy and from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, both in New England, USA.

Later this year we look forward to welcoming wooden boat building students from La Canoa Foundation, Colombia, and from the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS), from New England.

Additionally, plans to accept interns from boat building academies in Denmark, England and France are already in discussion.
